Check In: Matty Muncey
Interview: @phoenixprojeck
We checked in with ROTY prospect Matty Muncey to get a better understanding of the process behind the scenes, and the work required to put together a professional level winch part.PP: Could you shed some light on what the process of filming your video 'What did you think would happen!' Was like?
MM: The hardest thing was definitely getting a crew together for a few days at a time with no proper budget behind the project. That’s why it ended up taking so much time. The whole filming process was very on and off, whenever and wherever we could make it happen, we made it happen. But I’m also never starting any project with a specific end goal or release date, I try not putting too much pressure on it and just let myself go on stacking clips until I feel like I have something.
One day in particular comes to mind, we were filming at the Den Bosch spot - (legendary spot from Dom, water monsters, sewer cats). It was a random trip I kinda just threw together a crew for including Detty, Mik and Ripley Leach for like 2 days?
Ripley and Mik rode first hitting the drop and then Mik actually rode into a wall after landing and broke his wrist, and also probably got a mild concussion. This was pretty early into the session so we ended up spending most the day in the hospital and obviously the vibes weren’t really that high after something like that.
But Mik got his cast and was feeling ok, and instead of the whole crew just calling it off after being at the hospital, everyone was still down to go back to the spot for me to ride. So we all went back and I got the clip of me gapping over the bridge relatively quickly, pulling it off just in time before the police were called and showed up to bust us.
The whole day was like starting at 100 then dipping to 0 and bringing it back to 100 again at the end. But that shows how supportive everyone was for me to get the clip.
The biggest support in all of this though was my girlfriend Detty, she’s always down to come and shoot photos, film and even drive the winch sometimes. I literally couldn’t have done it without her!!!
Also Hayden Berg and Mik hosted us in their homes countless times and were always down to spend their free time out winching.PP: You put out a fairly sizable park edit this year too, was combining the two projects something you considered while you were making them?
MM: No not really. I kept them separate because I think they don’t really match well together. It’s nice to have different vibes and each one feels more coherent to me as an individual project.Check out both videos “What did you think would happen!”, “Postcards from Europe”, and “Cut Loose” below.
